The entrance to Morden College, in a secluded corner of Blackheath. The college is a fine building, possibly designed by Wren in 1695, and founded by Sir John Morden, a merchant, as a safe haven for "poor, sober and discreet merchants" who had lost all at sea. Morden's charity still offers accommodation to the elderly.
